We had a wonderful day yesterday. We went to Buck Island with a couple we met last weekend. They are a wonderful couple named Jerry and Azenitha who are retired and live on a 42 foot sailboat. They picked us up in their dinghy and brought us to the boat at about 9:30. From there, we went to Buck Island, which is about five miles away. It was a rough ride out--the swells were six to eight feet. It took us about an hour to get to the island. When we got there we went snorkeling. It was so much fun! We both saw a stingray, and Andy saw squid. When we got back to the boat for lunch, Azenitha got back into the water to check the anchor and saw a barracuda under the boat! After a nice lunch, we got back into the dinghy and went to the other side of the island where there is an underwater trail for snorkeling. This trail is along the coral reef and it is gorgeous. There were lots of beautiful fish. Every once in a while, a large school of fish would swim right past us. Jerry saw a large lobster. Azenitha saw a small shark, but luckily none of the rest of us did! I asked her if it was big enough to eat all of us and she assured me that it was a small one, only about four feet long. Nonetheless, I told her she could go first on the way back to the dinghy! By that time it was getting late, so we went back to the boat. Jerry sailed the boat part of the way back to Christiansted, but the winds weren't cooperating so we had to motor back the rest of the way. The sun was setting by the time we got back. It was just a perfect day.
