Mongoose

When we first got here, I noticed something that looked a bit like a squirrel scampering across the grass. It was really fast. I was told it was a mongoose. I haven't been able to get a close look at one because they are really quick. I'm told that they were brought here years ago to help control the rat population. However, that didn't work because rats are nocturnal and mongooses are not. (mongooses?? mongeese??--actually, mongooses is correct). I still haven't seen any rats around, so maybe the mongooses are doing their job. Or maybe I'm just not nocturnal either!
